It is an archipelago with more than 300 islands, located in the southern Pacific, about three thousand kilometers east of Australia and 1930 kilometers south of the Equator.
There are two main ones (Vanua Levu and Viti Levu) and in Viti Levu are the two main cities Nadi and Suva.
From Brisbane (Australia) to Nadi it takes 3:30 hours by fly, there is only water and some islands. The island is in the middle of nowhere.
Transportation in the island is very complicated, there is not much infrastructure and the buses are very old, so all hotels are like a resort, that is, you arrive and stay, there is no way out.
First I stayed on the main island. Nadi is the second city on the island.
The Mamanucas Islands are a group of small islands within easy reach of Nadi.
They are on the western coast of Viti Levu.
Water sports such as snorkelling and diving are very popular, as there are many reefs, colorful fish and at low tide many islands are revealed.
I stayed on Nomu-Riki Island, which has a lush forest and where “the castaway” was filmed with Tom Hanks.
After a few days in this paradise I went to another part of the main island called Namatakula, halfway between Nadi and Suva.
Coral coast.
One of the main tourist spots is the coral coast, which is halfway to Suva.
The main city is Sigatoka, an agricultural city but it supports the south coast resorts.
I went to the Beach house resort, visited several islands, with diving and hiking in some “mountains” close by.
Now the time has come to return to Australia and head to Cairns where I will visit the great barrier reef.
